Using the latest beta build of WB5, I have a problem with Firefox version 1.5. Upon loading, the Firefox main window uses what appears to be the classic Windows theme. If I maximize the window, it changes to the WB theme I have loaded. If I then minimize and restore, the Title Bar is now blank, with no buttons.

New RSS Ticker Widget

Nov 17, 2005 11:43 PM by Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I have new RSS Ticker widget that's pretty much complete, that I'd like to get a few beta testers to look at before I actually release it.

If you would be interested please contact me at Email

You don't have to be technically savvy or a DX coder. You do have to have DesktopX.

Looks pretty cool

Don't know if this has been posted before, but I just found it, and it's pretty cool. It's a screen saver that cycles images and displays information, sorta widget-like. Check it out.

from the site:

With the new MSN Screen Saver (Beta) you can:

* Personalize with background photos and news and weather information from MSN® or any RSS feeds from websites you choose.
* Search the Web and click news headlines directly from the Screen Saver.
* Stay connected with MSN Hotmail®, MSN Messenger, and MSN Spaces. Track how many unread Hotmail messages and current Messenger conversations you have, and display blogs and photos from your friends’ MSN Spaces.

What does it mean now?

Question: If someone has a User Level of "Visitor (2)", does that mean they have not purchased Stardock software? Note: I'm not referring to Access Class.

Lost Column

Nov 5, 2005 2:44 AM by Discussion: Stardock Support General
In the latest Stardock Central release (2.19[b].140 build 98) I've run into a problem.

I was looking at the forums, and I clicked the border of the column that holds the sections icons (Object Desktop, WinCustomize, etc) after the mouse over offered to close it to make more space. That worked, but now there seems to be no way to get the column back, and after exiting the program and coming back I'm stuck at the News section.

I've just found what seems to be a problem with the WB beta 5 release (4.90g(b).033) - the dialog editor in Visual Studio 6 is hosed: the "drag border" doesn't show up around the dialog window, thus no ability to size the dialog.

Prior to the beta release there was no problem.

Tried using per-application settings - set to a different theme with no per-pixel stuff, set to title-bar only. The only thing that works is excluding completely.

Please

Thought I would start a DX feature request thread, since I have a few, and I'm sure others do also.

1. Access to Z-order settings from the script. Currently we're able to set OnTop for an object, but have no access to what Z-order group the object belongs to: Normal, Always On Top, or Desktop.

2. Access to an object's label from the script. Currently if you drag a file to a container object, there is no script access to the label that get's added with it.

3. Access to an object's type. Currently the only way to create an object of a given type is to clone it from a template object. It would be useful to be able to change an object's type from a script.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Anyone else?

Just wondering...

I submitted a DX Theme and a DX object last Thursday. I'm wondering if the queue is really long or if there is some problem with the uploads?
Thanks

WindowBlinds to go with DX Theme Needed

Aug 4, 2005 9:17 PM by Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I'm currently working on a new DX Theme, and I would like to have a WindowBlinds theme to go with it. I'm not finding anything already done that really works for me, so I'm hoping that one of you great skinners out there would like to colaborate. I'm including a link to a screenshot of the theme as it stands.

Make them where it counts.

I've been reading these forums for a few months now, and posting occasionally as seemed appropriate (or unavoidable), and I think perhaps some of us could use a reminder about a couple of things in regard to complaints.

First of all, there will probably always be something for someone to complain about. The two main categories of complaints I read about here are the sites performance and some newly released version of a Stardock product with problems. Much of the time the complaints seem to devolve into unproductive bashing, with lots of anger and drama, and righteous indignation.

Perhaps some people are just not particularly happy, and it spills out here, or are in need of releasing these kinds of feelings where it is relatively safe to do so (no one is likely to punch you if you are angry and rude).

If you are feeling upset and want to post an angry diatribe at "those site admins" or "those Stardock people" or whomever, may I suggest that it would perhaps be useful and productive to stop for a moment and ask yourself just what it is you intend to accomplish?

If there is a real problem involved, either with the site or with a particular piece of software, solving it may involve a little thinking on your part. For instance, who is most effective person to communicate with about this particular issue? And what is the best venue in which to do that?

It may be that a public forum is convenient and certainly many issues can be resolved with help from fellow users, but if it is a site issue then there are only a few people who can really do anything about it, and presumably they are busy attempting to do just that. It is unlikely that they are just cruising the forums to weed through and find the legitimate problems. An email to the right person can be much more direct, and is probably much more likely to get some attention.

The same goes for software issues. There is an established tech support email address for Stardock products, and I would guess that that is the most direct route to get attention to an actual (or presumed) defect in a release. Additionally, I think some people have forgotten that many of the releases that are available for download are BETA releases. That means they very likely could still have some problems. This is the nature of a beta release. If you are unwilling to deal with that possibility, then it is very simple to use the settings in Stardock Central to ignore them.

To summarize: If you have a complaint about a problem, and you want it to be effective, take the time to think about whom to address it to, and where, and it wouldn't hurt to give some thought to how (as in how would you like to be addressed).

Just my two cents.
